Following a rigourous selection procedure, Nick Weightman has joined Visit Isle of Wight as ‘Sustainability, Exhibitions and Trade Executive’.

VIOW: Welcome to the team Nick, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Nick: Being a born and bred Islander, I love nothing more than shouting about how beautiful, peaceful, and desirable our island is!

I’ve spent over 10 years working with various Islands attractions as an entertainer and Events Manager to make memories for tourists and locals alike.

I’m a performer at heart, so I’ll never shy away from talking to anyone and everyone about how we have so much to be proud of on the jewel of the south coast.

VIOW: What do you think will be your biggest challenge in your new role?

Nick: We are all still coming to terms with the cost of living crisis and more people have less money than ever to spend. We need to highlight and promote our island as an alternative some international travel destinations where you can save money on the travel, and be more sustainable doing it.

VIOW: What are you most looking forward to in your role?

Nick: I’m really looking forward to working with local businesses to promote a more sustainable holiday for visitors to our island. I want to share our island with the world, taking local highlights and promoting them nationally and internationally to bring people here, again and again.

VIOW: What do you like to do in your spare time?

Nick: Being a dog owner and having a young family, I love to get out and about to discover the hidden gems of our island, supporting local businesses along the way. When I get time to myself, I have been known to tread the boards of some of our islands theatres, performing with different companies since the age of 10.
