Your chance to nominate & vote for Board Members of Visit Isle of Wight

Visit Isle of Wight is looking for new directors for the board of the Isle of Wight’s destination management organisation. The position is open only to Wight BID levy payers. You can nominate yourself or someone else (with their permission).

The visitor sector on the Isle of Wight delivers 38% of its overall economy, making it one of the largest economic drivers for our Island, almost £500million of impact.

Visit Isle of Wight supports that impact, creating and delivering marketing campaigns to promote the island and all it has to offer – a unique, accessible and stunning destination for day visitors and holidaymakers on the mainland and internationally.

The Board is led by an independent chair, David Curtis-Brignell MBE, and is supported by managing director, Will Myles. It includes strategic partners such as Isle of Wight Council, ferries and other transport operators. Crucially though, it includes invested representatives from the tourism sector – BID levy payers. These members are voted onto the Board by other levy payers. These levy payers are representatives for the industry on the Isle of Wight.

Visit Isle of Wight would like to welcome up to 12 elected BID levy payers to the Board for the next three years. These directors will actively make decisions that will support tourism on the Island, that will drive and develop its appeal, increase visitor numbers and extend the season. It’s an opportunity to shape the future of tourism on the Isle of Wight.

A timetable for nominations, the election and announcement are below.

What does being a Board Director of Visit Isle of Wight entail?

As a Board Director of Visit Isle of Wight Ltd you would be expected to attend board meetings (currently 4 per year and normally lasting 2 hours) and any additional ‘special’ events that you are able to support, devote time to reading reports, ensure that you understand the impact of the visitor economy to the island and be an ambassador for the organisation and WightBID.

You may be asked to join a sub-group to look at specific issues or areas of operation.

Directors have a duty of care to the company and must be committed to uphold its principles.

Your own sector experience will be welcomed and your views and input to meetings must reflect a wider universe than your own business/organisation.

Directors are required to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate diligence for the company’s financial integrity, governance and risk management.

You will be encouraged to offer strategic advice, challenge management and contribute to the overall success of Visit Isle of Wight.
