Green Star scheme

The Visit Isle of Wight Green Star scheme acknowledges and rewards businesses that actively promote the use of sustainable transport.

As well as the natural environmental benefits of travelling as a foot passenger, there are clear trends within the tourism industry that show visitors are looking for more eco-friendly, localised getaways. Travelling by rail, bus, bike or walking creates a sense of adventure and encourages visitors to explore areas they will otherwise have missed. We believe that this type of experience will leave our guests wanting to return to the Isle of Wight time and time again.

How does the Green Star scheme work?

New for the 2019/20 season, the Green Star scheme has a structure of bronze, silver and gold levels. The level you reach will depend on how many of the following eight statements are true.

  • I provide information to customers about travelling to my premises using sustainable transport.

  • I provide information to customers about exploring the Isle of Wight using sustainable transport

  • I provide dedicated facilities for cyclists, such as cycle storage, bike wash station, tools and tyre pump or the loan of puncture repair kits and maps

  • I provide dedicated facilities for walkers, such as boot-drying facilities and a cloakroom

  • I provide a discount or incentive to customers who arrive by sustainable transport

  • I have responded to the 2019 Visit Isle of Wight Sustainable Transport tourist business survey

  • I have attended a familiarisation trip in the past 12 months

  • I provide an electric car/bike charging point

With a score of one point per statement;

Up to 4 points: Bronze
5 to 6 points: Silver
7 to 8 points: Gold
