Green Star scheme

The Visit Isle of Wight Green Star scheme acknowledges and rewards businesses that actively promote the use of sustainable transport.

As well as the natural environmental benefits of travelling as a foot passenger, there are clear trends within the tourism industry that show visitors are looking for more eco-friendly, localised getaways. Travelling by rail, bus, bike or walking creates a sense of adventure and encourages visitors to explore areas they will otherwise have missed. We believe that this type of experience will leave our guests wanting to return to the Isle of Wight time and time again.

How does the Green Star scheme work?

The Green Star scheme has a structure of bronze, silver and gold levels. The level you reach will depend on how many of the following questions you can answer yes to.

· Do you provide information to your customers about how they can travel to your premises using sustainable transport?

· Do you provide information to your customers about how they can explore the Isle of Wight using sustainable transport?

· Do you provide dedicated facilities for cyclists, such as cycle storage, maps or the loan of puncture repair kits?

· Is your property either dog-friendly or well-equipped for walkers? For example, you could provide footpath maps, boot-drying facilities or a cloakroom.

· Do you offer an incentive or discount for guests arriving by sustainable transport?

· Have you responded to the 2020 Visit Isle of Wight sustainable transport survey?

· Have you attended a Visit Isle of Wight familiarisation trip in the past 12 months?

· Do you provide an electric car or bike charging point to your customers? This can include actively promoting opportunities to charge removable e-bike batteries via a standard 3-pin socket.

With a score of one point per statement;

Up to 4 points: Bronze 5 to 6 points: Silver 7 to 8 points: Gold
