Procurement of Operator/Service Provider for Electric Vehicle Hire Scheme – Suppliers’ Day

The Isle of Wight Council has secured funding from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund 15/16 for its ‘Transforming Travel on the Isle of Wight’ programme. The programme includes the establishment of an Electric Vehicle (EV) Hire project, which seeks to make electric vehicle use attractive to visitors. The project will run from the award of contract (expected to be June 2015) to 31^st March 2016 and a fee of £36,000 will be available to the successful bidder.

The council is seeking bids from organisations, including private businesses, which wish to establish an Electric Vehicle Hire Scheme which is primarily aimed at visitors to the Island. Schemes of this nature have been established in the New Forest and Lake District and may provide models for the Island, but other exciting and innovative ideas which meet the project specification will be welcomed.

The council anticipates that this opportunity will be of interest to companies wishing to diversify their existing hire businesses; to accommodation providers collaborating to provide EVs to their guests; to port and passenger ferry operators; and to groups with an interest in low carbon transport and sustainable tourism

The Council will award the contract on the basis of the most viable proposal which achieves carbon reduction and economic growth outcomes and contributes to a unique and environmentally-friendly form of Island exploration.

Prior to the beginning of the formal procurement process, we would like to invite potential service providers to attend our suppliers’ day. As well as enabling the Council to gauge the level of interest, it will be an opportunity for potential bidders to:

• Hear more information on the project;
• Meet representatives from the Council and its partner organisations;
• Discuss the Council’s proposed procurement process;
• Ask questions and provide us with your views;
• Meet other interested parties, with a view to establishing a consortium or partnership to deliver the Scheme.

The event will take place on Wednesday 15th April at The Riverside Centre, The Quay, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 2QR. Refreshments will be served from 10.00 for a 10.15 start. Numbers are limited to 3 attendees per organisation and the event will finish by 13.00.

Please note that if you are unable to attend the event, this will have no impact on any decisions made during the procurement process. Presentation slides and any other information for the suppliers’ day can be provided after the event upon request.
