Following the last Panel meeting the following event applications had been approved in principle:-
Total BID Budget for Events support 2018 – £40,000
IW Festival of Running 1-3 June £2000
IW Pride 21 July £10,000
Beer, Buses & Walks 14-15 Oct £1,000
Walking Festival 28 – 13 May £8,000 (+ Warners sponsorship of £7,000)
Balance as at January 2018 – £19,000
- The panel considered a further seven event applications:-
Isle of Wight Food Festival / Secret Widget Festival / Shipwreck Isle / Isle of Wight County Show / Island Highland Gathering / Ryde Carnival / Hullabaloo
With only limited funding remaining in the budget, the panel felt that only Hullabaloo could fulfil the main criteria of the funding support, that of attracting more off-island visitors to stay in Island accommodation out of the main season.
To that end, Visit Isle Of Wight has written to the Hullabaloo organisers, advising a possible £6,000 grant subject to hearing more about their plans to attract off-Island staying visitors.
- The panel then spent some time discussing future strategy, particularly with regard to how best Visit Isle Of Wight could support the longer term future of the Island carnivals. It was also agreed to keep a reserve fund so that the panel could resource an Island events development strategy.
- A meeting later in the year will consider budgets for 2019 and changes to the event application criteria so as to best suit attractor events support.
