VIOW confirms talks with and Bournemouth University

The WIGHT BID Proposal, developed through consultation with more than 500 tourism businesses on the Isle of Wight, is all about working together to grow the Island’s visitor economy. Today Visit Isle of Wight, the Island’s Destination Management Organisation and Kevin Daniells of have jointly confirmed that they are discussing plans to collaborate if the WIGHT BID goes ahead.

David Thornton of Visit Isle of Wight said: “We see and its digital expertise, as part of the solution, not a challenge to the WIGHT BID. I believe it is essential we all work together with one coherent strategy to achieve the best possible outcome for the Island’s tourism industry.”

Kevin Daniells of said “Whilst we have different ideas on certain subjects, we share many common goals. We recognise that our skills and abilities are compatible, and it therefore makes absolute sense to develop a path alongside each other that brings added value and extra impact for tourism providers on the Island”.

David Thornton, Simon Dabell (Chair of Visit Isle of Wight) and Kevin Daniells met two weeks ago in Newport to discuss a wide range of subjects including the possibility of a joint approach to Visit Britain to develop integrated booking engines, new research options and tracking solutions, PR and overseas marketing.

Visit Isle of Wight also confirmed that it is in discussions with Professor Dimitrios Buhalis of Bournemouth University to further expand digital marketing strategies for the Island on a world-wide platform. Buhalis is one of Europe’s most respected and successful e-tourism experts. He is a Strategic Management and Marketing expert with specialisation in Information Communication Technology applications in the Tourism, Travel, Hospitality and Leisure industries. His research area is cutting across a number of disciplines and is looking into adoption of innovations for creating value for both consumers and organisations.
