LATEST NEWS FROM THE PRESS OFFICE – 10 DECEMBER 2014
We’ve had some great results in the press office this week not least of all from The Guardian who were looking for ideas for their winter outdoors supplement – more details to follow – and the Daily Telegraph who wanted suggestions for their winter round-up. As per usual, the deadline was instant but well worth the effort since one of our submissions, an event called Dark Wight Skies which is being held at the Isle of Wight Observatory on Monday 16th February (http://wightaonb.org.uk/events/dark-wight-skies-event-2015/) is to be featured in the 20th December edition of The Telegraph.
We have also received significant media coverage following press trips the DMO hosted earlier this year. Three and a half pages in Go Holiday Magazine which will be on sale in WH Smith in major cities, McColls and 270 independents throughout the UK in January and February. The Island has made the front cover story and here’s a link to the online version: http://goholidayworldwide.com/issue4
Please click here to view coverage which follows a visit by Stephane Jarre from Bus et Car transport et tourisme travel trade magazine in November. A publication for group travel organisers, it covers South-East England and is worth around £44,850.
Beautiful South Awards – have you heard the news?
Several Isle of Wight tourism businesses have been awarded some of the region’s highest accolades at the Beautiful South’s Awards for Excellence held on 4th December at the Grand Hotel in Brighton.
It was a particularly good evening for The Isle of Wight’s Owl & Monkey Haven and Nettlecombe Farm Holiday’s Corner Cottage who scooped top Gold awards in the Small Visitor Attraction and Self-Catering Holiday Provider of the Year categories respectively. Also celebrating their victory was Tom’s Eco Lodge awarded Silver in the Self-Catering Holiday Provider of the Year category. These annual awards, organised by Tourism South East and sponsored by Shepherd Neame are now in their 20th year are held to recognise exceptional levels of customer service and dedication to raising standards in the tourism industry. The nominations for the Island businesses were funded this year by Visit Isle of Wight as part of an ongoing strategy to drive up quality and shine a spotlight on the Island.
David Thornton, CEO, Visit Isle of Wight, said: “The Tourism Excellence Awards provide finalists with a moment of well-deserved glory which can be used to market, promote and improve their businesses still further. I offer my hearty congratulations to all the winners, who are all worthy ambassadors for the Island.”
